This is a project for a treehouse resort located by the lake Fingers in NY, USA, featuring a very specific design. This unique getaway boasts a distinctive design that perfectly complements its serene surroundings.
Despite its modest size of only 360 sq ft, this project presented us with exciting challenges that inspired innovative and tailored solutions. The primary load-bearing system relies on roof rafters, which effectively distribute loads to a Glulam framework. Subsequently, the load is further transferred to Glulam columns, and their horizontal stability is ensured through the implementation of steel bar bracings that bear tensile loads.
One of the most remarkable features of this project is the expansive panoramic window, seamlessly blending aesthetic appeal with functionality. Stretching across two sides of the building, this window adds a touch of elegance while flooding the interior space with natural light. We overcame the challenge of interrupting the continuity of the Glulam roof rafters by strategically placing substantial Glulam beams beneath and above the window in a cross direction. These beams effectively redistribute the loads, working in harmony with a rafter positioned below the window and a vertical Glulam column, creating a cantilever-like effect.
To achieve this ambitious design, we meticulously addressed the transfer of moment and tensile loads. Custom steel brackets and connections, reinforced with dowels, played a crucial role in ensuring structural integrity. The end result is a breathtaking weekend cottage that not only showcases exquisite craftsmanship but also seamlessly blends into its natural surroundings, offering a harmonious retreat.
Building is designed, produced and assembled during spring and summer of 2023.
