Commercial two-story building made from CLT panels
Built between two existing brick buildings. Project is based in Farum, Denmark.
Construction of the building is independent of existing buildings and consists of load bearing CLT walls, beams and slabs. The base is rectangular shape dimensions 16.7 m by 10.6 m. The maximum span of the slabs is 4.4 m and maximum wall height is 4.5 m. Vertical loads from the roof made of timber rafters are transferred to the concrete foundation through CLT walls. Lateral stability of the building is ensured with CLT walls. Thicknesses of CLT panels in this building are 100 mm and 160 mm for CLT walls and 160 mm for CLT slabs.
Visual quality is insured with connections made invisible from inside
External CLT walls are visible from inside and all internal surfaces are produced in visual quality. This means that all connections are made to be invisible from inside. Also, in fire accidents these walls have lower bearing capacity due to lack of fire protection which is taken into consideration.Thin CLT panels around windows hold external insulation of the walls and ensure a good visual look of window opening from inside.
For CLT construction of this 354 m2 building is used about 92 m3 of timber.
